Burningtree Country Club hosted their 59th annual Spirit of America Golf Classic on June 25-28th with Daikin America, Inc. as their title sponsor for the 17th consecutive year.
This year’s Daikin Spirit of America Golf Classic was won by Matthew Render of Lee University. Render hails from South Africa but now calls Acworth, GA home. Render started the final day 4 shots back but charged to the win with back-to-back birdies on 16 and 17 to finish -5. Render held off Huntington College’s Jack Hundley, the leader after day 3, for the win.
In the Junior Division, AJ Bradford of Athens, AL claimed the title. He’s a recent graduate of Athens Bible School.
Beyond the Spirit contributing to the local economy by bringing 90+ golfers to Decatur, the proceeds from the tournament go directly toward the needs of the local community. In 2024, the proceeds went directly into the emergency response to Hurricane Helene and its catastrophic flooding of our neighbors in North Carolina and Tennessee. In 2023, the proceeds were split between local charities Decatur Youth Enrichment and Hands Across Decatur.
