Daikin Tournament Raises $311,000 for United Way

Every year, on a select Saturday in September, Daikin America hosts our annual United Way Charity Golf Tournament.

This event started in 1996 and has been a key part of Daikin’s support for the United Way of Morgan County (or UWMC) ever since.  That first tournament raised $36,000 and the event has grown into one of the largest one-day fundraisers for the United Way in the country.

This year’s tournament, held Saturday, September 20 raised an amazing $311,000.  In total, the tournament has raised over $7.1 million for the United Way since 1996.

The event is a model that any company could use to raise funds for charity.  Daikin calls on its vendors for donations and every penny donated goes to UWMC.

Daikin organizes the event, pays for 100% of the tournament costs, and hosts the “Platinum Dinner”.  This dinner is a themed dinner party for the largest donors on the Friday night before the event.

Allan Britnell, VP of Manufacturing / Plant Manager, said this year’s tournament benefited from great weather.

“We try to rotate the tournament each year between our two local Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail courses – Hampton Cove in Huntsville and The Shoals just outside Muscle Shoals.   This year, it was at The Shoals, where we were blessed with clear skies, sunshine, and beautiful views of the Tennessee River.  The tournament setting was almost as perfect as the ‘Hole in One’ recorded by an amazing golfer during the event!

“Of course, the tournament could never be successful without the gracious giving of our many vendors.  We appreciate the partnership we have with each and their willingness to serve the Decatur and greater Morgan County community by donating to the event and coming out for the Golf Tournament,” Mr. Britnell said.
