Thousands of people of different ages, cultures, and backgrounds came together in harmony at Point Mallard Park on the evening of May 5 for the 2023 installment of the Daikin Festival. The celebration enjoyed favorable weather and featured new elements that added to the festival atmosphere.
With entertainment by our own Taiko Drum Team and classic rock band Natchez Trace, those in attendance enjoyed that perfect blending of cultures that has made Daikin Festival unique from the very first festival, held in 1994.
By the time the festival ended, volunteers had served:
- 5,000 BBQ sandwiches, servings of Yakisoba, Jambalaya, and Daifuku Mochi
- 4,800 slices of pizza
- 3,500 servings of chicken fingers
- 4,000 Daikin Festival buttons
- 2,500 Happi Coats
- 900 cases of drinks
More than 1,000 festival-goers came by the Daikin Community tent. The energy around the Taiko Drum stage was high all night and mascot Pichon Kun was a huge hit.
Fireworks by PYRO Shows proved to be the perfect way to end the evening.
Many thanks to the Decatur Police Department and Morgan County Sheriff’s Office for traffic and security and to Point Mallard Park and the City of Decatur for allowing us to use the venue.
A special thanks to our hard working volunteers who made the experience such a good one. And thank you, most of all, to everyone who came out and took part in a warm community celebration.
