Daikin Sponsors Decatur’s Chemical Collection Day

The city of Decatur hosts a monthly household chemical collection event on the second Saturday of every month from 9 AM–12 PM. The event accepts household dry-cell batteries, used motor oil, paint, household cleaners, gasoline, kerosene, oil, filled aerosol cans, pool chemicals, fertilizers, pesticides, and herbicides.

Daikin was the sponsor for Decatur’s March chemical collection. We were very proud that so many of our staff spent their day helping to keep potentially hazardous materials out of landfills, contributing to cleaner air and water.

Volunteers were Ash Ghoja, Gerry Manley, Jonathan Murphree, Emily Ward, Ivi Shaw, Will Caruso, Allan Britnell, Carl Thomison, Kasey Bridges, and Don Harris.

Over the course of the day, community members brought in 2400 lbs of paint, 300 lbs of aerosols, 1200 lbs of pesticides, 600 lbs of flammable solids, 40 lbs of dry cell batteries, 10 lbs of lithium batteries, 10 lbs of NiCD batteries, 20 lbs of corrosive liquids, 50 lbs of caustic alkalis, 10 lbs of mercury, and 150 gallons of used oil. Great job, team!
