Every Fourth of July week, more than 100 of the region’s top collegiate golfers convene at Burningtree Country Club for the Daikin Spirit of America Golf Classic.
The tournament has long been known to give amateur golfers the boost they need to ascend to the PGA Tour by significantly increasing their amateur ranking points.
This year, when all of the dust had cleared, the winner was Ryan Terry from Evansville, Indiana. Florence’s Hunter Battles was runner up.
In the Junior Division, the winner was local product Sammie Homes of Priceville and he has an interesting tie to DAI. Sammie’s mother, Jessica, travelled to Japan in 1996 as a participant in our Daikin Homestay Program.
